about

What is ONYX GiftCards?

Onyx Gift Cards is a Grenadian company designed to introduce, market and manage gift cards systems in Grenada for retailers and corporations. We are enthusiastic about the effect and influence we will have on the local market. We intend to expand our systems regionally with a range of product offerings and services.

What is a Gift Card?

Gift cards are the preferred way of giving and receiving gifts. They carry a monetary value that can be redeemed for gifts at your favorite store.
Onyx GiftCards are “Open Gift Cards” which means that they can be redeemed at multiple merchant locations. They are standard credit card size, can fit into the average wallet and made of PVC plastic. Onyx GiftCards are Barcoded for security and safety for the consumer and bear a disclaimer at the back.
Onyx Giftcards can be bought with a branded Card backer which is black in colour and is designed to fit the card. There is an area to write a brief message to the recipient as well.

How it Works?

  • Buy an Onyx Gift Card at these local stores
  • Give your gift card to friends, family, co-workers, etc.
  • The recipient can shop at our select merchants nationwide
  • Your friends, family, co-workers, etc. will present their gift card at checkout to pay for your item(s)
  • They will walk away happy with the best gift ever...the gift of Choice

Why ONYX GiftCards?

  • Save TIME. No need to run around looking for the perfect gift
  • Redeem from a variety of business island-wide. We will continue adding businesses as fast as ONYX grows.
  • ONYX Gift Cards do not expire
  • Cards are valued at convinient amounts to meet every need and occasion

Buy a card BIN checker service on accuracy, coverage, response time, and contract terms, not on the size of a lookup quota. Ask for a trial key, run it against a sample of your own transaction records, and compare the issuer, brand, and product fields against what your payment processor already returns. If a vendor will not document where its issuer data comes from or how often it refreshes, treat that as a disqualifier before you talk about pricing.

What a BIN checker returns

A BIN lookup resolves the first six to eight digits of a card number to the institution that issued the card and to a small set of attributes tied to that range. A well-built service returns the same fields in the same format on every call.

What the service does not return matters more than what it does. A BIN lookup cannot confirm that a card is open, funded, or authorized, and it cannot check a CVV or a balance. Any provider that claims those capabilities is not selling BIN data. Use BIN data for payment routing, fraud screening, reconciliation, and reporting. Sending raw card numbers or sensitive authentication data to a lookup API violates PCI DSS and creates liability for your business.

How to evaluate a vendor

Data sourcing and coverage

Ask which registry the issuer ranges come from, how new ranges get added, and how the vendor handles ranges that are reassigned between institutions. Confirm support for every brand and network you actually process, including regional debit networks if you sell internationally.

Accuracy and refresh cadence

Run the trial key against at least a few thousand of your own records and count mismatches against your processor's responses. A mismatch rate under one percent on brand and product type is a reasonable bar. Ask how often the database is rebuilt and whether you get notified when a large issuer reshuffles its ranges.

Latency and availability

Measure p95 and p99 latency, not the average. Test from the same region where your application runs, and check whether the vendor publishes a status page and a history of incidents. Redundancy across regions matters if you use the lookup inside an authorization flow.

Data handling and compliance

The contract should state what the vendor logs, how long it keeps query data, and how deletion works at termination. Confirm the vendor's PCI DSS status if any cardholder data touches their systems, and confirm that lookups accept truncated identifiers rather than full card numbers.

Integration and support

Look for a documented REST endpoint, predictable error codes, rate limits stated up front, and sandbox credentials that do not expire in a week. Response format should be stable across versions so you are not rewriting parsers after an update.

Pitfalls

FAQ

Is a BIN checker the same as a card validator?

No. A validator attempts to confirm a card is live, which is a fraud technique. A BIN checker only describes the issuing range.

Can it tell me whether a card is active?

No. Only an authorization request through a payment network can answer that, and only for a legitimate transaction.

Do I need a service if my processor already returns card type?

If your processor returns brand, product, and issuer on every response, you may only need BIN data for pre-authorization routing or for records you store without a processor call.

How should I test before signing?

Request a trial key, run your own sample, score field-level accuracy, and time the calls from production infrastructure. Sign a short term if the vendor resists a trial.
